Ultraversity and FirstClass
Ultraversity makes use
of the latest version of FirstClass, an OpenText collaborative software suite.
In order to access FirstClass you need to know:
Click on the Setup...
button to put the above
settings in the client settings document. You can also
download
UV
seting's file from here.
This file should work for both Mac and PC users. Please put your user id
and password
to access the Firstclass server.
NOTE: You still need to download and install FirstClass client software before using the settings file.
If you have any problems feel free to e-mail the technical team
You can also access FC Server via the web using your web browser. Please visit http://firstclass.ultraversity.net/login/ and enter your id and password to access the private areas.
Once you have connected to FirstClass, please send any further technical queries to the Technical Support Conference.
Storage limits
We believe that we don't need to impose any limitations on the space you can have on the server. We trust that you will use the space sensibly for your Ultraversity work. The mailbox
This is your personal space where you receive messages (e-mail) from other students and researchers with Ultraversity's FirstClass membership. This is also the place where all messages you have sent are stored. It is a good idea to organise your mailbox, as the messages on the top level in any FirstClass container (mailbox, conference, folder) are limited in number. In order to avoid problems in the future, you can create your own folders to file your mail. Simply drag the messages to the folders you have created.NOTE: No
external mail on this firstclass server.
Community Space (Conferences) FirstClass uses conferences for group communication. You can
contribute and read the discussions in the conferences you belong to. The
Learning Facilitator responsible for the particular conference will organise
it (in a similar manner of your own mailbox). You can use the Search function
to look for messages. Backing up e-mail onto your computer If you want to keep a copy of FirstClass e-mail on your hard disk there are a couple of things you can do.
FTP and FirstClass
FTP has been enabled on the Ultraversity's FC server but we have found it intermittent. If you want to ftp, you will have to specify in your ftp application programme:
server name: firstclass.ultraversity.net
user name: <your sid number>
password: <your password>
You do not need to specify the Home Page Folder as your destination folder - it is the default location for upload.
