You will need to be inside your own plone area and be within the 'contents' tab as shown by the first graphic. Moving files or folders within plone is exactly the same.
They are just 'objects' but you do need to be in the right view structure - namely 'contents' view

We'll be using the 'copy', 'cut' , 'rename' and paste options and the 'select' radio button as shown in the diagram on the left |
![]() |
First we need to create the 'new folder' which we can then copy or cut the files from your main folder into. Do this by selecting 'new folder' from the drop down option on the top right of Plone's menu |

we'll need to give it a name so choose a name that will match
your needs - try to keep them quite short then click 'save'
|

This will automatically take you into the new folder that you created.....so you'll need to come back out of there and then move back to your main contents.
|

Either go up a level as shown and then select contents or navigate back using the back button in your browser - all we want to do is reach... |

here - where we can see the newly created folder |
![]() |
now....find the files or folder that you wish to copy or cut into the newly created folder. In this example I am choosing 2 single files |
![]() |
click the radio button that applies to them and then select 'cut' They are held in the system memory and you'll need to paste them into your newly created folder |
![]() |
Once you navigate to your newly created folder, click 'paste' and you'll see your two (or however many) files folders appear inside the folder . The breadcrumb trail (above the contents, view, edit tabs) will always show you where you are in your file structure. In this example we are in 'give your folder a a name which is in 'hamish' - the trail may be longer if you create folders within folders |

Finally you may wish to make your items 'private' Simply select the drop down down option from the right hand side of the folder (as shown) |
