My Learning Journey

(Remember, underlined words link to explanations on the glossary page.)
A little over three years ago I was accepted to be part of the first cohort at Ultraversity. I'm now in my final year and this exhibition forms part of my research. My degree title is BA (Hons) in Learning, Technology and Research.
The course is based on the work I do in school. This means I use action research to find out what I need to know to improve the way I do my job. The emphasis is on relating theory to practice, bringing my own experience, and that of those around me, to my exploration of the theories under-pinning my role. As well as collecting and analysing data I also use reflection.

The Learning Journal
As part of my course I needed to keep a learning journal. Some of us decided to use web logs or blogs. I started off just using a blog to write about my job and the course. I wrote about anything new that I'd learned that day. Other people sometimes left comments that were helpful or made me think about things in a new way. I read other people's blogs, and began to feel part of a blogging community of learners.
The Read Write Web
There were other on-line tools I was learning about too (wikis, RSS, social bookmarking sites, on-line photo-sharing sites like Flickr). These were all part of a change in the way the internet is being used. This change is sometimes called 'the read write web' or 'web 2.0'.
In two of my modules in my 2nd year I used Flickr to help me explore the importance of classroom displays in school, to explore the possibilities of using tags to form a 'folksonomy' of displays and to make connections with people all over the world who were interested in displays.
