Managing Challenging Behaviour"
A discussion from my pages in Jelly OS (in year 1).
Looking through this discussion on now over a year later I can see how our understanding as a group has progressed.
This discussion was very much about giving mutual support and suggesting interesting books or courses that we might have attended. There is a certain amount of sharing of 'tips' and what I would describe as 'TA lore' (tried and trusted techniques that have worked for us in the past). Here I found the first mention of Bill Rogers' work and people who were very positive about the results it can obtain. This discussion was the starting point for my exploration of the area of behaviour management and still contains some useful insights. I still feel now as I did then that the most important one is to separate the child from the behaviour. I may really dislike the behaviour but I cannot afford to let myself dislike the child. He is only acting out what he has learned to do - in many cases he or she has had little option but to learn to do these things in order to survive in a hostlile environment.
