Research Questions
Given my stated emphasis on first person research Eve Thirkle asked me why my research questions seemed to place an emphasis on community building.
I wanted to move from first person research towards a more collaborative approach in the later stages of the research. My emphasis at first was on my provision of the means for a community of interest, possibly even of practice, to grow around the resource I was providing. In the longer term I hope to foster this on-line community and encourage its growth.
This can be seen in the way the questions are stated:
How can I as a resource provider use the 'read-write' web to improve communication between users?”
• "How can my use of these tools encourage users to form collaborative relationships around specific resources?"
(from my Research Proposal)
The emphasis in both questions is on improvements in my own practice. Although I am keen to draw others into building the resource the focus is on my contribution. The blog is currently totally under my authorship but the image pool it draws on now comes from more than 40 members of the Classroom Displays Group on Flickr. So although the research is focussed on my practice this may eventually build into a more collaborative enterprise.
