Data Collection Methods
Observation
• log sheet to note reactions to the resources during one on-line session
Blog Comments
• provision of comment facility to give unstructured reactions to resources
Semi-structured interviews
• a semi-structured audio interview
• synchronous on-line interview via chat
• asynchronous e-mail interview.
Quantitative data
A statistics counter on one of my pages gives a variety of information. This quantitative data does not identify individuals and is automatically collected. It will be used as a basis for reflection in my learning journal.
Learning Journal
• Critical incidents relating to the resources will be noted in my learning journal and reflective techniques applied.
• monitor my own internet use and critical incidents
•
Classroom Displays Group on Flickr.
• screen shots of conversations,
• images with notations,
• e-mails between participants
• critical incidents via the learning journal.
At the end of each cycle I will gather more data using the range of techniques described above. As the research emerges I will remain flexible and may include other forms of data collection
The Pilot Exhibition
• observation
• questionnaire
• some informal interviews.
• focus group
• use of blog comments
I will amend my choice of data collection techniques in the light of the results of the pilot exhibition.
