My Harvest Basket
(by Class 5T, September 2004)
I will put into my harvest basket,
The rain gently landing on the harvest crops.
The wind blowing leaves off the trees like a swirling flame of fire.
Autumn animals crazily eating nuts and fallen fruit before they hibernate.
Summer fades away, the howling wind returns.
I will put into my harvest basket,
Crunchy apples and ripe juicy plums.
A squirrel collecting shiny brown conkers and acorns galore
Crispy carrots, cool cucumbers and sun-ripened tomatoes.
Fresh scented flowers, yellow and red, make us feel cheerful.
I will put in my harvest basket
Crops in other countries withered before they ripen.
Plants shrivelled up and dead.
People dying of hunger, tummies rumbling everywhere.
Scorching sun, so little rain.
How lucky we are!
I will put in my harvest basket
The farmers carefully gathering food for families to eat
Fishermen who go out to trawl for flashing fish
The children happy to help the farmers gather the harvest
The mothers cheerfully baking the harvest bread to share.
